Petro-Clear Marine
Hydrocarbon Contamination in water
For treating fuel
oils, intermediate levels of moderate molecular weight hydrocarbon
contamination and heavier machine oil in water. For use in either salt water or
fresh water.
What is Perto-Clear Marine
?
Petro-Clear is a blend of selected, laboratory grown microbes
that have an affinity to degrade hydrocarbons. What makes Petro-Clear different
from our other formulations is that these microbes have a high tolerance for
salt. They can withstand higher salt levels than those found in sea water.
Petro-Clear also contains micro and macro nutrients that accelerate the
activity of the microbes and the degrading process. These microbes are safe and
non-pathogenic.
How does Petro-Clear work?
The remediation of hydrocarbons is achieved by adding large amounts
of these microbes, that naturally breakdown hydrocarbons, to a spill. This is
know as bioaugmentation. The microbes in Petro-Clear work by degrading these
hydrocarbons. This is possible because the microbes use parts of the
hydrocarbons to maintain their own metabolic process. This process continues
until the hydrocarbon has been reduced to carbon dioxide and water. Once the
food source has been depleted, the remaining microbes then self-remediate. The
results is clean water without traces of hydrocarbon. Toxins and pathogens are
removed.
What can Petro-Clear Marine remediate
?
Our blend of microbes
have a broad spectrum of metabolic pathways and are thereby able to degrade
complex hydrocarbon chains. Petro-Clear can also degrade the soluble BTEX
compounds found below the surface of the water. Heavy greases and old residual
weathered hydrocarbons with high molecular weights are also degraded. A benefit
to bioremediation is this an almost immediate reduction in odors from the
spill.
Primary Mode of Action
(Substrates Utilized Best): Phenol; benzene; toluene; other aromatic
hydrocarbons with hydroxylated, nitrogenated groups; octane; ethane; other
short-chained alkyl hydrocarbons.
Secondary Action
(Substrates also attacked): Salicylic acid, biphenyl; xylol; phenoxy alcohols;
mineral oils; lubricating oils, kerosene; surfactants; gasoline;
pentachlorophenol. Intermediate length alkyl hydrocarbons and alcohols, fatty
acids, benzolic acid, citrus oils.
Some examples where
bioaugmentation is ideal - Applications include:
Bilges and Ballast
Tanks
- Bilge water often contains fuels, oils and hydraulic fluid. When
Petro-Clear Marine is added to bilge water it rapidly eliminates vapors and
odors associated with diesel fuel and gasoline
Fuel and Oil Spill
Cleanup
- Petro-Clear Marine is equally
effective with fresh, salt and brackish water.
Storm water
run-off
- Will reduce and eliminate
hydrocarbons from contributing to stormwater runoff contamination.
Protocols for
Bioaugmentation
Our facility will
determine which product best suits your particular circumstance. The next step
is to determine at what concentration the contaminant is present. We will
recommend a product based on your specific contaminant levels. We have the
capacity to provide these microbial bioaugmentation systems in a highly
concentrated form to remediate even the worst situations.
