BOD-Clear - Effluent treatments

Microbial Augmentation of Industrial Wastewater and Wastewater Treatment Facilities

For Total Solids Reduction and Reduction in BOD &COD Levels

BOD-Clear- a range of bacterial waste degrading formulations for aerobic and anaerobic digestion.

Wastewater Treatment systems rely on microbes to perform the function of the breakdown of sewage influent. These microbes live in the sludge of treatment plants and holding tanks. They digest the solids and breakdown various compounds. Some wastewater treatment systems are exceptionally efficient, others perform effectively soon after start up, but later stop performing as well.

The key to understanding how and why some wastewater treatment systems work well and others don't, is the need to understand what these microbes need to function. As microbes are living organisms, they require certain nutrients and environments to survive, multiply and perform.

In any wastewater treatment system there is a vast array of microbes present, i.e. aerobic, anaerobic and facultative, each performing specific functions in their respective parts of the system. Each species has a tolerance of ecological minimums and maximums with regard to various conditions; pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen levels and nutrient levels. All microbes require optimal conditions in order to proliferate and infuse the system with sufficient numbers of microbes to maximize the efficiency of the wastewater treatment plant.

BOD/COD Levels

A common problem is the ability to control high BOD/COD (Biological Oxygen Demand) levels in a system. The first thought that there is not enough oxygen in the system to do its job. This is usually based on suspicions that the mechanical processes that generate air and oxygen - in relation to the volume capacity of the system, are not functioning well enough or are inadequate. Traditional methods trend to either increase the oxygen levels (dissolved oxygen) and or increase the retention capacity. This is typically the engineering solution and does not always solve the problem.

In anaerobic conditions, failures are often due to the incorrect levels of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorous. Liebig's Law states that the productivity of any complex system dependent on numerous essential inputs, is limited by the single variable in least supply. In this case, the anaerobic microbes required to preform the degrading function will die if not provided with the correct balance of nutrients. As they oxidize they produce acid, which disrupts the total balance of the microbial populations. Due to the competitive nature of microbes, the non-beneficial bacteria will dominate producing an excessive level of pathogens and toxins. This will lead to "stalling" or grid-lock and high BOD's with foul odors.

The indigenous microbial species found in a typical wastewater systems are often overwhelmed by system upsets. Harsh chemicals, disinfectants and chlorination will have a detrimental effect on microbial populations making systems less efficient. Sludge build-ups occur, tank deposits, back-ups, floating grease pads, fouled drain fields are just some of the problems encountered when microbial populations are not maintained at optimum levels.

With a better understanding of the inhibitory factors which cause the desired microbial populations to diminish, we address the cause of the problem, and only then repopulate the system with the specific microbes (augmentation) in the correct numbers, inoculating it with high CFU counts (colony forming units).

Bioaugmentation

BOD-Clear is for BOD, COD and TS reduction

BOD-Clear Wastewater Treatment contains microbial species that have an affinity for biodegrading industrial wastewater, containing high levels of VOC's with extremely high BOD's, specifically difficult substances such as phenols, phosphorous, chlorinated hydrocarbons and proteinaceous compounds, at accelerated rates.

It is a proprietary blend of standardized organic, naturally occurring endosporic microorganisms.

Addresses high FOG

BOD-Clear - Waste Water Treatment may be used in effluent lines, grease traps, drain lines, holding ponds, lift stations, sewage injection pits and wet wells. It provides rapid hydrolyzation of fats, oils and greases to fatty acids which is followed by biological absorption and digestion, that prevents and even eliminates grease deposits and odors.

BOD-Clear Wastewater Treatment contains the standardized CFU count that can be used to inoculate the media of biodegrading systems, resulting in improved and accelerated digestion of organic solids and VOC's.

Used in conjunction with your existing treatment systems, the regular use of the BOD-Clear Wastewater Treatment will provide the user with a number of quantifiable benefits:

  • formulations for aerobic and anaerobic digesters
  • accelerated efficacy, reducing retention times
  • enhance the efficacy of the de-watering process by reducing a greater percentage of solids
  • improve quality of effluent reducing the quantity of flocculent additives
  • greatly reduce odor problems
  • up to a 60% reduction in solids over processes that rely on naturally cultivated microorganisms
  • eliminating fats and hazardous organic compounds from the bio-solid component
  • increases digestion rates and improves terminal flocculation

You will also see a drastic reduction in BOD and COD levels when used as directed. BOD is reduced. Those facilities that wish to recycle their bio-solids for commercial fertilizer use will benefit greatly from BOD-Clear. Regular use of the BOD-Clear - Wastewater Treatment results in a cleaner end product.

Individualized Protocols - Due to inherent variances of the effluent within each wastewater treatment facility we prefer to prescribe products, rates and methodology and recommend process engineering on an individual basis. We have a series with several specialized formulations, each with specific functions. These range from general all purpose formulations to specialized industrial cold water formulas and anaerobic digesters formulations.
  • BOD-Clear - Municipal Wastewater concentrate Lagoons, contaminated bodies of water, municipal plants to reduce B.O.D., C.O.D., T.S.S., and sludge. Improves the overall capacity of the plant.
  • BOD-Clear SB-- Industrial Wastewater concentrate - for industrial wastewater applications. Reduces B.O.D., C.O.D., T.S.S., sludge and the control of odor. Specifically treats the effluent from food manufacturing plants and industrial manufacturing plants.
  • BOD-Clear - Foam reducers - Reduces foaming caused by Nocardia and other filamentous microorganisms and restores floc forming microbes to the system
  • BOD-Clear- for Lift Stations, Grease Traps and Septic sytems  effective for reducing F.O.G.( fats, oils and grease) as well as organic wastes that build-up within lift stations, sew lines and grease traps . Reduces maintenance and increases efficiency of the system.
  • BOD-Clear Industrial concentrate for commercial Septic Systems and Leaching Field Recovery
  • Nitro-Clear - Ammonia reduction - Nitrifying bacteria - Nitrosomonas (ammonia-oxidizers) and Nitrobacter (nitrite-oxidizers), aerobic, gram-negative, chemolithic autotrophs for ammonia reduction.

Daily applications guidelines are based on daily flow in the first stage for the reduction of BOD Levels, ammonia levels

  • Use higher dose when starting BOD levels are greater than 400, retention time is less that 48 hours or when systems water temperatures are below 50 degrees or above 120 degrees F.
  • When implementing this bio-augmentation program, it is essential to provide the microbial systems with as much retention time as possible, in addition adequate dissolved oxygen levels (3ppm or greater) will expedite their establishment and increase product efficiency.
  • When applying product to system, divide dosage rate equally between the equalization tank and the aeration tank.
  • Regular use of the BOD-Clear SB -Microbial Wastewater Treatment in the aerobic and anaerobic digesters will result in a cleaner end product by eliminating fats and hazardous organic compounds from the bio-solid component.
  • This product combination is excellent for the remediation of cess pits, lagoons and bio-hazardous waste dumps. It can be pumped down "deep wells" for the remediation of surplus stage 2 waste water disposal.

In short, these formulation are designed to make good systems even more efficient and drastically improve conditions and efficiencies in problematic facilities.
