Petro-Clear Hydrocarbon and Pesticide Remediation - Microbial Solutions

Bioremediation solutions for of all weights of petroleum hydrocarbons, sites contaminated with solvents and other volatile organic compounds (such as trichloroethane, trichloroethene, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes, BTEX) and fuels such as diesel or gasoline. Converts harmful petroleum products into carbon dioxide and water.

Many of the most toxic environmental contaminants are now candidates for bioremediation.

Bioremediation of hydrocarbons is best accomplished with a process called Bio-augmentation. That is, the addition of a large number of selected, laboratory grown, standardized microorganisms to a contaminated matrix. These contaminant specific microbes capable of degrading these compounds breaking them down into carbon dioxide and water. The microbes will survive and consume their contaminant food source until the unwanted pollutant is remediated.

Successful Bioaugmentation with Microbes

Bioaugmentation with microbes requires a few criteria to be successful.

  • The first is the ability for the added microbes to reach the contaminant.
  • The second is oxygen, microbes require oxygen. Much of their requirement will come from the atmosphere. However, if the ground is compacted, the ground should be tilled or raked to allow as much oxygen as possible to permeate the soil. If this is not possible, please contact us for other suggestions on how this can be achieved.
  • The third is temperature. The working range is between 5-45º C (with 28º C being the optimum)
  • The fourth is pH. The microbes a have a working range of pH 6.5 to 8.5
  • The fifth is the addition of nutrients to the soil and moisture. We will advise you of the necessary nutrients required for each remediation project.

As long as the microbes can reach the contaminants with the necessary oxygen, nutrients, moisture, and the temperature and pH are within the microbes working range, then remediation will be successful.

How long will a typical clean up take?

This depends on the contaminant involved and it's concentration levels. It can range anywhere from a week for simple gasoline spills to several months for complicated crude oils.

Contamination will either be dissolved in the groundwater, floating on the groundwater as free product, "sorbed" (bound) to the soil. In each case, we offer a specific product whose microbial types and levels have been optimized to cope with the various scenarios.

Hydrocarbons in water

A series of all-natural microbial systems has been isolated to bioremediate hydrocarbon contamination in either salt or fresh water environments. These microbial systems contain high concentrations of safe, non-pathogenic, microorganisms.

Will reduce and eliminate hydrocarbons from contributing to contamination in:

  • stormwater runoff
  • at commercial and industrial sites
  • oil spill cleanup in lakes, rivers, groundwater, and ocean
  • treatment of bilge and ballast water
  • marina spills

These products are ideally suited for immediate application in treating the typical contamination from boats on a marina's surface water.

Hydrocarbons or organic solvents - on soil, landfarming or in-situ

Specifically formulated for use in soil applications, landfarming, underground storage tanks, large industrial clean-ups and spills on turf - soil - grass. Also, formulas for concrete, pavement and parking lots clean-ups.

Products for hydrocarbon spills on soil - oil, diesel, gasoline, hydraulic fluid

  • Safe - easy to use, mix with water and apply to spill

Suggested Dosages:

Hydrate 2 lbs of Petro-Clear in 5 gallons of unchlorinated water - stir well. Allow to sit for 3 to 6 hours. Stir several times.

Dispense hyrated product  approx. 1-3 Gallons per cubic meter of soil, use the higher dose for high levels of contamination to reduce the completion time.

Apply initial strength of 1 to 2  gallons of hydrated product per cubic meter to get the most even distribution in the soil, depending on aeration technology. Second application may be necessary.
